For over five decades, BIT Mesra (located 16 kms from Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand) has been engaged in nurturing minds through a rich heritage of academic excellence. A bustling hub of student activities, the beautiful green campus has been a second-home to thousands of students in their journey for their 3-dimensional growth and prosperity.

 Established in 1955 by visionary-industrialist Mr. B.M. Birla, it is today one of the premier engineering destinations in India. The Institute attained the status of a Deemed University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, in 1986. It is a full member of the Association of Indian Universities and the Association of Commonwealth Universities.

2.     In addition to the above, students will be required to deposit Hostel Caution Money* (One Time only - Refundable) of Rs.5,000/- and suitable mess advance at the beginning of each semester, which will be adjusted against their mess charges. For the July 2018 session, this mess advance* will be Rs. 20,000/- [total of Rs. 25,000/-]

Student Life at Institute:

Campus life is undoubtedly the most cherished memory for a student and BIT ensures that discipline is properly coupled with adequate share of fun and excitement. Students share an open and transparent bond with faculty and other staff members. Significantly, everyone takes responsibility and puts best as a whole to make the Institute a great place to live and learn. The green residential campus is self-contained with excellent hostel facilities and hangout zones.

CAMPUS RECRUITMENT 2017-18

 Overview

Total number of 156 recruiters for Full Time Employment and internship visited this year   across different sectors of the industry. Major recruiters ranging from Investment Banks to Consulting and Analytics, Automobile to Heavy Engineering and Infrastructure, IT Product to IT Services companies visited the campus and recruited from the BIT talent pool. 

 56 recruiters have visited BIT campus for the first time this year.

Till now out of 1480 eligible students 704 students got placed and a total of 773 offers have been generated, including all the campuses & progammes of BIT.

 In the BE programme of Mesra Campus, out of 532 eligible students, 419 (79%) got placed. Several meritorious students have received multiple offers which make the total offer as 460. 94% students from BE Computer Science, 77% from BE Electronics & Communication & 93% from BE Information Technology , placed in high-end Consulting & Analytical and IT Product & Services companies. 77% of the BE Mechanical Engineering, 77% of BE Production Engineering and 78% of BE Electrical Engineering students got offers from different Core Engineering companies and high-end Consulting-Analytical & IT companies. Likewise, 80%, 67%, 51% and 45% of students from Chemical, Chemical & Polymer, Civil and Bio-Engineering respectively opted for jobs in different Core & IT sectors.  

As of now the average salary is INR 7.31 lakhs per annum and the highest compensation is INR 34.00 lakhs offered by Arcesium.

A total of 338 Internship opportunities generated during this placement season for UG & PG students.

Industry And Alumni Relations:

The institute takes immense pleasure to organise Alumni Meet of different batches comprising about 50000 alumni inviting them back to their Alma matter.  Recently 1968 and 1989 batch Alumni Reunions were held in February, 2018 on the campus. There were various activities organized during the meet include Then &Now, Yadein, Sports etc. where our alumnus of the batches shared their experience and expectations to add values to make BIT MESRA, a world class brand. The meets were also instrumental in the exchange of knowledge and experience sharing between the alumni and the institute for achieving excellence in the academics. During the meets the institute had planned to conduct campus and departmental tours, discussions, seminars, cultural programs, informal games and sports, interactions with students, clubs and staff members.

The alumnus of the Institute had proposed to work together extending support to the Institute in 7 distinct work streams, - DIPSC3 (Digitization, Infrastructure, PR, Social Responsibility, Connect with Alumni, Connect with Industry & Curriculum Development).

In addition to above the institute organises Alumni lecture series regularly while the current students get exposure through interactions with our alumni who have achieved excellence in their profession.


Recreational/Extra Curricular activities:

The Institute has comprehensive facilities for outdoor sports and games. BIT hosts several extracurricular activities, necessary for overall healthy development of young mind. It has a beautiful sports complex with a modern stadium for track courts and field events. Well-equipped gymnasiums with modern multi-gym facilities are available. Further, a spacious new indoor badminton stadium, fine grounds and courts for football, hockey, cricket, kabaddi, kho-kho, basketball, tennis, volleyball, badminton, etc. are available. In addition, we have a well trained coach and guide to support and encourage sports activities for the students.

There are large number of Student Societies and Clubs, which supports students to nurture their hobbies and other creative talents for relaxation and entertainment. These Societies and Clubs include:

Dramatics Society, UNESCO Club, News and Publication Society (NAPS), Bhartiya Sahitya Parishad (BSP), Highlanders Adventure Club (HAC), Amateur Radio Society (ARS), Music Club, Fine Arts Society, Photographic Society, Students Chapter of the Institute of Engineers (IE), Students Chapter of IEEE, Students Chapter of IEE, SPIC-MACAY, Nature Club, Audio Visual Educational Club (AVEC) and Indian Association of College Going Scientists (IACGS)

Drama competitions, music competitions and annual student festivals (ANKUR, BITOTSAV), are conducted on a regular basis. Several traditional festivals like Saraswati Puja and Viswakarma Puja are also celebrated with great devotion on campus. The students participate and organize "Guru ka Langar" yearly on the occasion of the birthday of Guru Govind Singh.

 The various Institute’s teams have regularly participate on several student festivals and competitions across all over the country, including those held at IT-BHU, various IIT’s, BITS Pilani, ISM Dhanbad, Rotary International, etc. BIT students were always appreciated and noticed by the national organizing society from their credible performance and they bagged several awards in past on various events including music, drama, fine arts, literary etc.

 The Institute has hosted various Inter-University meets and tournaments at the National and Zonal levels in athletics, tennis, basketball, badminton, volleyball, football and hockey. The Institute’s teams also visit other Universities to participate in such tournaments. It is worth mentioning that our students have won laurels at national and International events too.

Location and Accessibility:

Birla Institute of Technology is located in a campus at Mesra, about 17 kilometers from Ranchi Railway Station, 25 kilometers from Ranchi Airport, 27 kilometers from Hatia Railway Station. Both Taxi and Autorickshaw are available from Ranchi/Hatia Railway/Bus Station/ Airport to BIT Mesra.
