About the Institute:

IIIT Raichur is one of the new IIITs proposed by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, located at Raichur, Karnataka state. IIIT Raichur will be starting its academic activity in August 2019 with its first batch of BTech students in Computer Science and Engineering. The intake will be 30 for this year. As the mentor institute, IIT Hyderabad will facilitate the functioning of IIIT Raichur in IIT Hyderabad campus. The students will be hosted in IIT Hyderabad campus, and will attend classes at the Institute. 

      Temporary Campus

 

Until the infrastructure at IIIT Raichur permanent campus is ready; the institute will start and function temporarily at the campus of IIT Hyderabad.

Academic Structure:

IIIT Raichur will be starting its academic activity in August 2019 with its first batch of BTech students in Computer Science and Engineering. The intake will be 30 for this year. IIT Hyderabad will be mentoring IIIT Raichur in its initial stages. 

The B.Tech. program consists of eight semesters spread over four years.  An Academic Year (July-April) consists of 2 semesters, each of approximately 16 weeks duration. The first semester begins in the last week of July / first week of August and ends by the last week of November. The second semester starts in the first week of January and ends by the first week of May. A student is required to register the relevant courses listed in the curriculum for that semester.  

The course structure of IIIT Raichur, will closely follow that of CSE, IIT Hyderabad at least during the initial years..

The 4-year B. Tech. program in the dept. of CSE is concerned with theoretical and practical aspects of computing. Theoretical aspects include algorithms and their analyses, data structures and their uses in software, theory of automata, formal languages and computation. The engineering aspects include various topics in systems such as architectures of computers, programming languages, compiler design, operating systems, design of databases, computer networks and application software. The program includes a choice of advanced elective courses in each of the above topics, as well as in areas such as machine learning, computer vision, big-data analytics, wireless networks and mobile computing. The program also has a provision to credit courses from other disciplines of science, engineering, and humanities.

Faculty:

IIT Hyderabad Faculty members will take the responsibility of conducting classes and laboratory work. At present, there are over 210 faculty members at IIT Hyderabad. There will be a Faculty Coordinator, who provides academic support and advice to the students on all academic matters.

Facilities:

Students will be provided all the necessary infrastructure facilities, like library, computing, networking, workshops, teaching laboratories and research laboratories. IIIT Raichur temporary campus at IIT Hyderabad will be a residential campus. All hostels will be equipped with sport, recreation rooms, TV room, washing machines, and dining etc. Hostels will be equipped with Wi-Fi access. IIT Hyderabad permanent campus at Kandi has a good sports ground. Students can involve in numerous sports to enable them maintain their physical fitness and develop team spirit. 

Student Life at Institute:

Students of IIIT Raichur will be a part of all the student activities taking place at IITH. IIT Hyderabad is a residential campus, with well facilitated students’ hostels. All hostels are equipped with Wi-Fi, solar water heaters and solar lighting. Recreation rooms, Table Tennis rooms, Dance room, Music Room, Robotics room and TV room etc. give students a platform to go beyond the Academics. IITH has sports grounds both in Hostel campus and institute. Students are involved in numerous sports to enable them maintain their physical fitness and develop team spirit.  IITH provides hygienic mess facilities for all students with menu changed, if necessary on a monthly basis. There is a bus service connecting the institute building with the hostels with a frequency of 15 minutes on weekdays, 30 minutes on weekends and also a bus that make weekly trips to the city on Sundays.

Mentor institute IIT Hyderabad will extend the existing facilities to IIIT Raichur students.

IIIT Raichur students may take part in the student activities of the host institute. IITH aims to make students not only the best Engineers but also the better citizens of the world by not only molding the knowledge base of the students but their morale too. Students of IITH organize two festivals every year Elan & ηvision. Festivals are the corner of showcasing the technical, cultural and management skills for our students. Elan is the annual technical and cultural festival of IITH. Elan was initiated in 2009 and it continues to grow every year. It is usually held during spring, in the beginning of the year (January/February). It includes workshops, lectures, demonstrations, technical exhibitions, cultural performances and live concerts. Competitive activities cover design events, programming, simulations and modeling, quizzes, debates, applied engineering and robotics.
