About the Institute:

Indian Institute of Information Technology Manipur ( (IIIT Manipur)

Consequent to the Union Cabinet's approval of a scheme, based on Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) model, for setting up 20 new Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) in December 2010, a total of 16 proposals from 15 States including Manipur had been approved by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) on Non-Profit Public Private Partnership (NPPP) model. Indian Institute of Information Technology Manipur (IIIT Manipur) is one of the 20 IIITs being set up in PPP mode. Indian Institute of Information Technology Manipur has been set up in order to develop Manipur as preferred destination for Information Technology related manpower and industry. This shall enable Manipur to gear up for providing Information Technology related services as well as high-quality R&D in Information Technology. IIIT Manipur started its Academic year in July 2015 with an undergraduate degree courses in two disciplines, Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) and Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) from its transit campus located at Mantripukhri, opposite software technology park, near CRPF camp, Imphal - 795002. IIIT Manipur’s permanent campus will come up at Ningthoupham village, Kangpokpi, Senapati district of Manipur.

Mentored by IIT Guwahati, Interim Director Prof. Amarendra Kumar Das is actively working for completion of its infrastructure and it has been successfully completed and is in very advance stage. The transit complex is provided with all required infrastructure for overall development of the institute and appointed various key faculty members for its own human resources.

IIIT Manipur is also looking for private/industry partner for the institute.

It is also mandated to start Design and Manufacturing disciplines to positively contribute to Govt. of India’s mission of North East and creating manufacturing hub in South East Asia.

To contribute to Human Resource development of its neighboring countries, IIIT Manipur will be looking for opportunities to spread IT education to Myanmar by providing required facilities to students of that country to study in IIIT Manipur through bi-lateral agreements.

Academic Structure:

Curriculum

First year (Semester I and Semester II) program will be common for both CSE & ECE this will allow flexibility to students in moving from one to the other. After the first year common program, the second year program will be relatively fixed, comprising mostly of core courses for the program. 3rd year on-wards the program will be mostly flexible comprising of electives, which may be organized as streams.

Rules For Change Branch:
Change of Branch will be allowed for 10% of the top CPI holders in each branch after the end of 2nd semester, subject to condition that the total strength of each department is increased by maximum of 10 %.

IIIT Manipur has appointed 13 faculty members at Assistant Professor level with PhD from very reputed institutes and universities and discipline wise break up is as under:

Above nos. is sufficient to start the institute and student teacher ratio is very health 6:1, i.e. for every 6 students, there is one faculty member. More faculty members will be inducted shortly.

Facilities:

IIIT Manipur is operating at present from its Transit Campus at Mantripukhri, Imphal. Although institute is in a transit campus, it has all facilities required for an institute of national importance such as state of the art lab, class rooms, wifi connected campus, Library, Auditorium, Hostels, faculty residences within the campus, play ground, outdoor gym etc.

It has power back up both for the Academic complex and Hostels.

All faculty members including Director is resident of the campus and there is also a small guest house with a capacity to accommodate 12 persons. This will be useful for persons visiting IIIT Manipur including parents.

For the purpose of Medical Facilities, IIIT Manipur has Medical Insurance with ICICI Lombard General Insurance Company in a cashless manner.

Student Life at Institute:
IIIT Manipur has its own hostels for both boys and girls. Room is shared between two students to foster friendship and comradeship as well as to prevent loneliness. DTH TV is provided in the Hostels and catering is outsourced. Students can have their night bites after dinner time from night canteens. Various clubs and cultural and technological festivities are initiated for the students.

Financial Assistance:
IIIT Manipur will implement any scheme available from MHRD, GoI and any other agencies and State Governments.

Training & Placement:
This is the second year of Academic Activity in the institute. IIIT Manipur will provide best Training and Placement possibilities with its link to IIT Guwahati, which is its Mentor Institute. Internship in industry is already started and a Training and Placement cell has been established.

Industry And Alumni Relations:

Being a nascent institute, IIIT Manipur's students will graduate only in the year 2019. Institute will set up strong relations with its Alumni. IIIT Manipur is utilizing its linkage with its Mentor Institute, IIT Guwahati to strengthen its Industry relations. Thus all industry which are having good relationship with IIT Guwahati and relevant for IIIT Manipur are being approached for establishing mutually beneficial tie ups.

Recreational/Extra Curricular activities:
IIIT Manipur has its own play ground. It is being developed as football ground. It is also developing its own volley ball, basket ball and badminton court. Table Tennis and Gymnasium is also in the offing. Other than the above physical games, IIIT Manipur will provide tracking in the hills, photography, literary activities, robotics etc. based on interest of the students admitted.

Location and Accessibility:

IIIT Manipur’s (http://www.iiitmanipur.ac.in/pages/contact.html) transit campus is within Imphal town on Imphal Kohima Road, NH 2 and approximately 10 Km from Tulihal Airport in Imphal. The campus is very secure, having New Secretariat coming up next to it and IT park opposite to the institute.

Imphal, capital of Manipur is well connected by air from various places of India. Various airlines operate daily flights to and from Imphal. Air India, Indigo, Jet Airways, Jetlites, Air Asia areoperating flights to Imphal either via Kolkata or Guwahati depending on orination of the flights. Taxis and Auto rickshaws are readily available from the airport to the institute.

Rail route is yet to reach Imphal, but expected to reach Tupul near Imphal by 2019. At present nearest Rail head is at Dimapur and there are bus services to Imphal from Dimapur.

There are also bus services from its neighbouring states like Mizoram and Assam. From Assam either through Dimapur in Nagaland or through alternate road route via Jiribam near Silchar in Assam.

Accommodation for parents visiting Imphal

For the convenience of the parent accompanying their ward to Imphal for admission, IIIT Manipur has arranged tie up with few hotels in Imphal. These hotel will provide discounts to the parent staying there and can book directly but need to mention that they are visiting IIIT Manipur to avail discount. Parent can also inform IIIT Manipur regarding this.
