About the Institute:

Indian Institute of Information Technology Sri City, Chittoor at Sri City, known as IIITS, is an institute of national importance and a pinnacle of technology education standards in India. The Institute is governed by distinguished academicians, industry leaders and senior government officials, referred to as the Board of Governors. Additionally, IIIT Hyderabad and IIT Hyderabad were the mentor institutions for IIIT Sri City. In fact, the Institute follows a similar curriculum and pedagogy as IIIT Hyderabad.

Governance: IIITS was established under the Government of India’s Initiative to set up 20 Institutes across India, focused on Information Technology. The Institute was setup by the Government of India – MHRD, Government of Andhra Pradesh and Industry Partners (Sri City Foundation) as a Not-for-Profit Public-Private-Partnership. The Institute was funded 50 percent by the Government of India, 35 percent by the Government of Andhra Pradesh and 15 percent by the Industry Partners (Sri City Foundation and Sri City Private Ltd)

Unique Location: The Campus spread across 81 acres and equipped with state-of-the-art Infrastructure in Sri City. Located 55 km north of Chennai on the Nellore Highway, Sri City boasts of seamless connectivity by road, air etc. (Visit: http://www.sricity.in). IIITS is located in Sri City, a decade old state of the art industrial city spread over 8000 acres encompassing a multi-product Special Economic Zone (SEZ), Domestic Tariff Zone (DTZ), Free Trade & Warehousing Zone (FTWZ) and Electronics Manufacturing Cluster. Sri City is hosting over 175 companies from 27 countries. The institute has access to the industries and social infrastructure available in Sri City through the Industry Partner.

Academic Structure:
Under-Graduate Curriculum

IIIT Sri City, Chittoor was mentored by IIIT Hyderabad in the first 6 years. The curriculum at IIIT Sri City follows a practise-theory-practise approach wherein the students are first introduced to real-world engineering concepts by providing hands-on-training. This is followed by rigorous theory-based courses which is again followed up with hands-on courses with intense real-world projects, requiring intense involvement from each student. The curriculum has been designed keeping in mind the best practises of IIIT Hyderabad, IITs and leading institutions of higher learning globally. The Institute combines top class education with pioneering research, whereby under-graduate students are encouraged to participate in different research and technology development projects, starting from end of 2nd year. Notably, the curriculum offers the flexibility of Honours program, wherein the student can hone their skills by working on a specific area for a period of 2 years and bring in a substantial impact on their area of interest. 

It is proposed to offer Minors in areas such as Cyber Security, Cyber Physical Systems, Smart Manufacturing, AI & Machine Learning, FinTech, Bio-Informatics, Blockchain, etc. In addition, it is proposed to offer a semester long project in an Industry or at a reputed research lab, as part of the curriculum. 

Rules For Change Branch:

Process for branch change: 

Students may request for change of branch (by email to Academic office) at the most one month after the last working day of 2nd semester. The request will be processed using the applicable guidelines in force and the decision is communicated before the start of the 3rd semester. The branch change will be effective from the student's 3rd semester. 

Guidelines for branch change:

A student after their first year can change their program based on their interest and capabilities. A student in a four year UG program can change to any other four year UG program. The guidelines to apply  and  approval  process  is  given  below:  

1.   First year students are considered for branch change from CSE to ECE and ECE to CSE.

2.   Change of branch is permitted from branch P to Q provided the change does not result in student strength in branch P falling below 10% of sanctioned strength and branch Q does not go 10% above sanctioned strength.

3.   Specific  programs  may have  a minimum  CGPA eligibility  requirement  to be considered  for branch change.

4.   If the number of students in a program is less than 90% of the sanctioned strength, change out of the program is permitted only if there are students changing into the program such that the final strength is at least 90% of the sanctioned strength.

5.   If the number of students in a program is more than 110% of sanctioned strength, change into the program is permitted only if there are students going out of the program such that the final strength is at most 110% of the sanctioned strength.

6.   In case of more students (than number of vacancies) wanting to change from branch P to branch Q. A priority list will be generated based on grades in courses relevant to program Q (as decided by program Q). In case of a tie, CGPA will be used.

7.   And outcome of Interview with program coordinators of program P and Q.

The Campus: A state-of-the-art campus is being built on 81 acres of beautiful terrain which is situated along a scenic perennial creek.  The campus is being designed and built according to international standards. The campus is ready and functional. IIIT Sri City is a residential institute with separate hostels for boys and girls with all necessary facilities, and it is mandatory for all students to stay on campus.  Students can access Campus-Network and computing facilities from their hostel rooms.  Two hostels for boys are ready and one hostel is functional specially for girls. 

Green Campus: Sri City where the IIIT is located is planned on Sustainability Principles. All off energy consumed by municipal services comes from Sri City Solar Farm. Sri City encourages its tenants to use a minimum of 40% of energy from renewable sources (Solar). Sri City also encourages electric vehicles for movement within Sri City. The IIIT- Sri City will endeavor to function on 100% Solar Energy from neighboring Solar Farms. It will also encourage all IIITians to use electrical vehicles for movement within the Campus. Most of the water requirement will be met through rainwater-harvesting and re-use of treated waste-water.

Labs: The Institute has air-conditioned, specialized, high-end equipment in each laboratory, as needed in research and development projects. The Institute has air-conditioned computer labs with sufficient work stations. 

Networking: The institute is Wi-Fi enabled.  All buildings including the classrooms, hostels and the campus will be connected through a high-speed fiber-optic network.  Students can access Campus-Network and computing facilities from their laptops and computers anywhere in the campus. 

Library: The Library has a good  collection of reference books, technical reports, journals, and general books.  The institute subscribes to all leading journals/magazines. The library is open on all days. In addition, the Institute provides access to several digital library platforms like Swayam, NPTEL, E-Vidwan, National Digital Library (NDL), etc.

Student Life at Institute:

Hostel Facilities: IIIT is a residential Institute and it is compulsory for all students to stay on-campus. Separate hostels for boys and girls are available with necessary facilities. Students can access Campus-Network and computing facilities from their hostel rooms.

Dining Facilities: The Institute has multiple messes serving a choice of healthy and nutritious South Indian and North Indian food.  Importance is given to maintain a hygienic environment in the messes.  There is a canteen which serves snacks, non-veg food, general fast foods, juices, milk products. The mess is managed by a committee comprising of Students, Staff and Faculty. 

Sports: The institute encourages students to actively participate in at least one sporting activity based on his/her individual aptitude. The institute provides sports facilities and equipment for a variety of sports such as cricket, football, basket-ball, badminton, volleyball etc. There are tournaments held on a regular basis that ensure a healthy, active atmosphere among students.

A formal Alumni association was set up in April 2019. On 23rd April 2019 - the day of maiden convocation, a vibrant Alumni association was formally inaugurated with more than 120 students becoming the 1st set of members. Location and Accessibility:

Sri City is located 75 Km from Chennai and Tirupati airports. The nearest railway station is Sullurpet where several long distance trains halt. Buses are available from Chennai, Tirupati and Nellore to Sri City.


The land allocated by GOAP for the IIIT Sri City campus is in Ramachandrapuram Village, Satyavedu Mandal, Chittoor District, Andhra Pradesh. The IIIT Sri City land comes under the administrative purview of Industrial Area Local Authority(IALA) Sri City. Sri City is a Planned Integrated Business City (Township) located 55 km North of Chennai on NH-5 along the border of Andhra Pradesh (AP) and Tamil Nadu (TN) States of India.

Due to its close proximity to Chennai, IIIT- Sri City benefits from the well-developed social infrastructure of Chennai.

The IIIT Sri City is 80 km from Chennai, 22 km from Sullurpeta, 75km from Temple town of Tirupathi and 45km from Srikalahasti. Tada Railway Station is 9 km from IIIT Sri City, across NH-5. Chennai Local Trains stop at Tada Railway Station.

The new age KREA university with Liberal Arts focus and its Business School are in the Sri City. Satellite Launching Station of Indian Space Research Organization is located near Sri City. The institute is surrounded by Mountains, Waterfalls, Birds Sanctuaries, Small Islands etc., thus providing opportunities for recreational activities. Sri City also hosts two hotels- Mango Resorts and The Inn as part of the social infrastructure. Sullurpeta: Reaching Sullurpeta by a train would be the easiest way to reach us. Sullurpeta is on Vijayawada-Chennai line. Most of express trains from Kolkata, New Delhi & Hyderabad stop here. From the railway station one can take an auto or APSRTC bus to reach Sricity.
