About the Institute:
 

The National Institute of Technology Goa (NITGoa) is a premier technical Institute of the region. NITGoa was established in the year 2010 by an act of parliament (NIT act 2007) and it is declared as ‘Institute of National Importance ‘. NITGoa is an autonomous institute and functioning under the aegis of Ministry of human Resource Development(MHRD), Govt. of India. The campus is located at Farmagudi, Ponda approximately 29 km southeast of Panaji, the capital of Goa and it is a temporary campus. The state of Goa is well connected by road ways, rail ways and air ways with various parts of the country

The Institute offers under Graduate and Post Graduate courses in three Engineering Departments: (1) Computer Science and Engineering (2) Electronics and Communication Engineering and (3) Electrical and Electronics Engineering 4) Civil Engineering and 5) Mechanical Engineering. The Institute also offers Ph.D in all the three above mentioned engineering departments. Along with that the Institute offers Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Economics and English.

The Institute admits students into the B.Tech degree program on the basis of ranks obtained in the Joint Entrance Examination JEE(Main) and the scheme of Direct Admission to Students Abroad (DASA) with an intake of 30 students in each branch. The institute is sincerely attempting to deliver quality education and to achieve excellence in teaching, learning and research with high professional ethics.

For M.Tech Programme, the Institute admits students through valid GATE score followed by CCMT (Centralized Counselling for M.Tech Admissions). Each department is offering 20 seats for the said programme, out of which 18 seats will be filled up through CCMT and the remaining 2 seats are meant for the sponsored candidates.

Rules For Change Branch:
  1. If the number of students enrolled in any branch of B. Tech. class as on the last instructional day of the second semester is less than the sanctioned strength, then the vacancies in the branches of higher order preference among the students will be filled by transferring students from other branches. All such transfers will be allowed as an incentive for excellent academic performance in the first two semesters. A limited number of students will be allowed transfer to branches of their choice.
  2. All students who have successfully completed the first two semesters of the course will be eligible for consideration for change of branch subject to the availability of vacancies.
  3. Maximum number of inward transfers allowed to a branch is subject to availability of vacancies.
  4. Pass/Fail courses will not be considered for change of branch under point No.2 above

Facilities:

NIT Goa is providing hostel facilities to outstation students with shared accommodation in the campus. So far the existing hostels are provided with the basic amenities like mess and Wi-Fi internet connectivity. NIT Goa is having highly qualified faculty from IITs, NITs and reputed universities. The institute is functioning from its own campus consisting of sufficient class rooms and laboratories.  All the class rooms are modernized with projector and required electronic equipments. NIT Goa is having well established laboratories in all the existing branches and also continuously engaged in enriching it as per the academic requirements. We have the required hardware and software available with laboratories. Each of the laboratories is attended by Technicians and Technical assistants along with the concern faculty. We also ensure availability of required text books in the library. As a part of extra academic activities, NIT Goa has conducted several workshops in their respective departments to enlighten its students and also aims to continue it in future. 

Library :

The Library of the National Institute of Technology Goa is a continuous growing organism with the compact features; document, user and services. Its core objective is to support academics in knowledge generation through educational activities; teaching and research. It formerly appeared in 2011. It has the qualitative documents on Science, Technology, Engineering,Economics & Finance, Management, Professional Communication and Ethics other subjects.Apart from these core collections, documents on literature and other subjects are also available. Library follows the ‘recommendation method’ to procure the documents, to meet the core knowledge need of academicians. The main focus of library is to develop qualitative collection with the books, journals, digital document, magazines and dailies. Library housekeeping activities are done by using an library automation software. Library reminds and alert to its users on their transactions and assist them in searching in OPAC and database for saving their time.

Student Life at Institute:

Students life at Institute : Accommodation with mess and other facilities are available for both girls and boys in the hostels provided by the Institute. The hostels have 24x7 internet facility, library, gymnasium and other recreational facilities. Medical facility is provided to the students. A counseling cell with a psychologist-cum-counselor and student guides also assist the students.


National Institute of Technology Goa, like all other NITs in India, enrolls students from all the 29 States and 7 Union Territories for the following programmes:
  • - B.Tech
  • - M.Tech
  • - Ph.D.
 
  Every year, students are selected for the admission into B.Tech Programme through CSAB(Central Seat Allocation Board) based on their JEE Main rank and the category they belong to. The competition is stiff; only roughly 30,000 students out of the 13 Lacs of students appearing for the exam get selected into NITs, which ensures that the cream of the nations’ engineering aspirants are admitted. Apart from that, 14 seats have been allocated for students under Direct Admission for Students Abroad (DASA).

Presently, 352 students have enrolled in the 3 following branches of B.Tech Programme of NIT Goa:

  • - Computer Science and Engineering - 113 students
  • - Electronics and Communication Engineering -121 students
  • - Electrical and Electronics Engineering - 118 students
 
 
For M.Tech Programme, the students are selected through CCMT(Centralized Counselling for M.Tech/M.Plan) based on valid GATE Score. Currently, 53 (including 1 sponsored) students have enrolled for the M.Tech Programme of NIT Goa in the three following branches:

  • - VLSI (Dept of ECE) - 18
  • - Power Electronics and Power Systems (Dept of EEE) - 15
  • - Computer Science and Engineering (Dept of CSE) - 14
 
 
Ph.D.: The degree of Ph.D. is being offered by all the three above mentioned departments along with department of Humanities and Sciences, which include Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Economics and English. Research Scholars are selected through CSIR/NBHM/UGC-NET and GATE score.

Recreational/Extra Curricular activities:

SPORTS AND GAMES :

  NIT Goa was carried out various sports programme successfully with the support and guidance of beloved Director. Institute Sports Officer is taking care of sports and other co-curricular activities happens in institute and it was successfully done since. Sports like football, cricket, volleyball, table tennis, carom, throwball, chess and athletics are commonly happenings in the institute. Institute has represented in various games in All India Inter Nit Tournament and medals awarded in athletics. Cultural events for the students also a main attraction and our students won in national level Drama competition in All India Inter NIT Cultural events. The talent and ability of students are up to mark and it will continue to maintain the same in future. Support from teaching faculties and other staffs towards sports and cultural events are most remarkable in NIT Goa.

How to Reach Us:

NIT Goa Campus is located at Farmagudi, Ponda, Goa.Farmagudi is located on a plateau 3 km from the main Ponda City on the way towards Panaji. Ponda is a city and a municipal council in North Goa district in the Indian state of Goa. It is located in the central part of Goa. Ponda city lies about 28 km south-east of Panaji and 17 km north-east of Margao and is also the capital of Ponda Taluka. Ponda is well connected by road to the Panaji (Capital of Goa) and main railway junction of Margao.

AIR :

Goa’s sole airport, the ‘Dabolim Airport’ in Vasco, caters to domestic and international airlines that stop en route to other Indian destinations. It is at a distance of around 30 Km (45 Minute ride) from the institute.

RAIL :

Goa has two rail lines-one run by the South Western Railway and the other by the Konkan Railway. Closest major railway station is ‘Madgaon Railway Station’ which is around 20 Km (30 Minute ride) from the institute.
