GENERAL:

Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT) is an Institute of National Importance. It was formerly known as Maulana Azad College of Technology (MACT), which was India's one of the first eight Regional Engineering Colleges. The institute has been named after the great educationist and the first education Minister of Govt. of India, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. The institute is situated in the heart of Bhopal on a beautiful plateau with a verdant 650-acre campus. Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh is well connected by rail, road and air with all parts of the country. The climate of Bhopal is moderate with temperature ranging from 10 to 45oC.

The Institute was established with the joint efforts of the Govt. of India and Govt. of Madhya Pradesh in September 1960, to attract bright young students from across the country. The Govt. of India, Ministry of Human Resource Development, New Delhi, has upgraded the Institute as National Institute of Technology w.e.f. 26th June, 2002. Institute celebrated its Golden Jubilee year in the year 2010.

There are 17 departments of instruction and research in the institute. All the Engineering and Science departments have well equipped modern laboratories for experimental work. At present Institute is running 09 UG programs in (B.Tech./B.Arch./B.Plan.), Institute also runs PG program in MCA, MBA in addition to 29 PG programmes in M.Tech. Institute also conducts Ph.D programee in Engineering, Science, Management, Humanities and Social Sciences. Institute has 195 faculty members, 380 supporting staff and nearly 5000 students (UG, PG & Ph.D.). The institute is successfully meeting the objective of producing skilled manpower of the highest quality to cope up with challenges of ever evolving industrial needs of the country.

The Institute campus has a beautiful Central Institution Building, Computer Centre, Energy Centre, Workshops, Canteen, Athletic & Sports Grounds, Sports Complex with Gymnasium, Students Activity Centre, Open Air Auditorium, Hospital, Staff Quarters & general amenities like Post Office, Bank, ATM, Shopping Centre and Guest House.

Fee Structure:
Tuition fee for students taking admission to B. Tech, B.Arch and B. Plan courses is  rupee 1,25,000/- per student per annum from the academic year 2016 - 2017. (vide MHRD order F .No.33 - 4/ 2014 - TS.III, dated 24th June, 2016)

This is subject to the following for protecting the interests of the socially and economically backward students:- 

(a) The SC/ ST/ PH students shall get complete fee waiver. 

(b) The most economically backward students (whose family income is less than rupee 1.0 lakh per annum) shall get full remission of the fee. 

(c) The other economically backward students (whose family income is between rupee 1.0 lakh to 5.00 lakh per annum) shall get remission of 2/3rd of the fee. 

(d) The revised fee would be applicable for students taking admission starting from academic year 2016 - 2017 onward.

i) Any change in the Tuition Fee from time to time shall be binding to all students
ii) There shall be an annual increase of 10% in other fees

Academic Structure:

Director of the Institute is the Chairman, Senate which is the academic supreme body of the institute, ratifies decisions on all academic matters.

Dean Academic reports to the Director and is in charge of all academic affairs. The four major areas of work under Dean Academic are as follows

MONITORING OF ACADEMIC PROGRAMS

The institute has Undergraduate, Post Graduate and Ph. D programs under which students are enrolled. The under graduate programs come under Associate Dean (UG Program) and The PG and Ph. D programs come under Associate Dean (PG and Ph. D). The two Associate Deans are responsible for the following

ADMISSIONS

The admission section is responsible for the admission of students to various Undergraduate, Post Graduate and Ph. D programs. The UG and PG admissions are done at all India level through counseling, whereas the process of admission to Doctoral program is laid down by the PG and Ph. D Admission committee.

EXAMINATIONS

There are three sections under this:

·         Controller of Examinations

·         Sub Senate Committee

·         UFM Committee

Most of the matters related to examinations come under the purview of Controller of Examinations.

CURRICULUM AND SCHEMES

All departments have their own Board of Studies which keeps updating periodically the syllabus of various courses as per the need, including new topics and reviewing the existing ones. The recommendations of the board of studies of various departments are put up in the senate for final approval before implementation.



Rules For Change Branch:

After the counseling process, change of branch is possible for the MANIT Bhopal admitted students at the end of first year of B Tech only against vacant seats within the Institute.

Rules for Change of Branch:

1 Program change is allowed only at the end of first year. The following regulations apply for change of program at the end of first year, i.e. after the completion of second  semester.

a) A student is eligible to apply for change of branch/ discipline at the end of first year only, provided he/she satisfies the following criteria:

      i) CGPA ≥ 8.50 for Gen & OBC Category; CGPA ≥ 8.0 for SC, ST & PwD Category.  

      ii) Candidate should have no F and /or I grade.

b) Change of the discipline will be permitted strictly in the order of merit as determined by their CGPA at the end of first year, subject to the limitation that

      i) The actual number of students in the third semester in the discipline to which the transfer is to be made, should not exceed the sanctioned strength and,

      ii) The strength of the discipline from which transfer is being made does not fall below 90% of existing strength.

c) If student of a particular branch does not get change in Branch A, due to point "a" or "b" above, then, the student of lower CGPA from any other branch will also not get change to Branch A.

Transfer from B Tech to B Plan/ B Arch and vice versa is not permitted.

Facilities:

 LIBRARY

The Institute library has a collection of more than 116874 books and back volume journals of Technical, Scientific and general subjects and these are computerized on modern line, More than 92 current National & International journals including e-journals are subscribed. Good numbers of back volume journals (in hard copies and online) are also available. The Library remains open from 8.00 AM to 8.00 PM on all working days. A separate Book Bank has been setup for SC & ST and General category student consisting of 19908 and 6802 books respectively, through which textbooks are provided on long-term loan basis to the economically weaker and needy students. A new Library block is also in the stage of completion.

 

HOSTELS

The institute has 10 hostels (9 boys & 1 girl hostels) with a capacity of 3585 for boys and 731 for girls. Construction of separate hostel for NRI students is in progress for 350 students.

SPORTS/ INDOOR GAMES & GYM FACILITIES:

Sports have been an important social and cultural activity through ages. It is not only necessary for all round development of a person but also provides a means of recreation and relaxation for body and mind. Various competitions provide opportunities for social interaction between culturally and ethnically different groups of peoples thereby fostering qualities of sportsmanship in them.

 

The need for a sports arena was felt a few years back and the institute took an initiative to come up with a plan for an indoor sports complex to cater to the needs of the students. Some of the proposed structures are Swimming Pool, Squash Courts, Table Tennis, Badminton Courts, Gymnasium, Basketball Court etc.

AUDITORIUM

The old Students Activity Center (SAC) has been renovated and is now known as Dr. S. Radhakrishnan Auditorium. It has a capacity of around 800 people and is accompanied by a fantastic Hi-Tech sound system. It is fully air-conditioned and has witnessed performances from various renowned artists from within and outside the campus.

ROLTA INNOVATION & INCUBATION CENTRE

The centre was commissioned to for the development of products and innovations which will be working even after Institute timings. It will encourage the students to target National and International Competitions. It will have seminars from renowned personalities frequently without disturbing the institute infrastructure and curricular activities. It will also be used to develop solutions for industrial problems so that the Institute Industry interaction strengthens which would create more Placement Opportunities. The centre will attract and encourage more and more student exchange programmes through MoUs with Foreign and National Universities.

 

Some of the Activities Conducted at the centre are as follows:

 1.  Industries & Institutes Interaction Survey.

 

2.  Vision LAB established on 2nd February, 2011 for the students to target robotics competition at national and international levels.

 

3.  Student’s Machine Health Monitoring Machine.

 

4.  Participation in SAE competition and SUPRA in Chennai by the   Mechanical and PI students.

Student Life at Institute:

Students enjoy healthy and competitive environment. A number of clubs and societies for sports, cultural and other co-curricular activities, SPICMACAY, NCC, NSS,IEEE student chapter, ISTE student chapter etc., help them to attain maturity and confidence and also shape themselves for the future needs of the world.

Financial Assistance:

As per MHRD letter F.No.33-4/2015 TS.III dated 29/02/2016 SC & ST students has to apply for the Post Matric Scholarship  hence there shall be no fee waiver to any student studying in MANIT, students has to apply directly for Scholarship available with State/Central Government etc.  

No scholarship is offered for Under Graduate Students at the Institute level. However for Post Graduate & Ph.D student assistantship is offered as per GOI norms.


Training & Placement:

Institute has a career development cell to train the student for their personality, communication skills and their placement activities. For the placement, students coordinate the activity annually in the consultation with Training and Placement Officer (TPO). Each Department has five training and placement student members with a faculty as training and placement adviser. Among the department coordinators, the executive committee members are selected .Student executive members contact industry personal and invite them for campus recruitment.

In the last three years, the average package varied from 4.5 lakhs to 1.2 crore. One student was offered a package of 1.2 crore by Facebook in the year 2013.

Industry And Alumni Relations:

Alumni cell of the institute is in constant touch with the Alumni who have made their mark in the industry. It takes pride in their achievements and organizes periodic interactions with the students so that a role model can encourage them for setting higher goals in professional life. Vyakhyaan is the annual alumni guest lecture conclave conducted by MANIT Alumni coordination cell(macc). This year it was organised on 20 March 2015. The student-alumni interaction session witnessed the presence of Mr. Aman Kumar Singh, a former IRS officer and currently the principal secretary to CM of Chhattisgarh. He is also reckoned to be one of the most powerful bureaucrats in the country.

Mr. Nikesh Rathi, batch of 2005, electronics and communication, an entrepreneur, who after working for various MNC giants, co founded a successful digital media agency Social Squared, based in Mumbai.

MR. SAJI K PAUL, batch of 1985, from mechanical engineering branch who is currently the head of all India sales function at Eicher in capacity of Vice president.

The event had the veterans speak their path to success through the interactive lecture sessions where they shared their experiences and gave away useful tips to the students.

Recreational/Extra Curricular activities:

Students get opportunity to indulge in extracurricular activities through various students clubs which are a platform for developing intellectual, social service, technical and cultural skills. Clubs like Rubaroo (cultural), Pixel (photography), Rashtraya (street play), SPINMACAY chapter, Rotract, Go Green, IBC, Drishtant, Music Club, Parivartan, Eminance, etc. provide opportunity to students to explore their hidden talents and allow for an all round growth and development.

Location and Accessibility:

Air:     Bhopal is well connected with daily flights from Delhi, Mumbai and Indore. MANIT is 15 Kms approx. from the Raja Bhoj airport.

Rail:   Bhopal is best connected by train on the central and Southern railways. It is well connected with trains from Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, Trivandrum etc. The Habibganj railway station is 5 kms & Bhopal railway station is 9 kms away from MANIT.
