About the Institute:
Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur was established in 2008. The Institute has established basic academic and infrastructure facilities needed for the Bachelor of Technology degree programs. Since August 2017, IIT Jodhpur has been fully operational from its Permanent Campus, from where both academic and residential activities are organised. This Permanent Campus of the Institute is the first fully-planned campus amongst the technical institutes in India; this sprawling residential permanent campus on 852 acres of land is located about 20 km N-NE from the center of the city of Jodhpur, on National Highway 65 towards Nagaur Town. 

The Institute is engaged in creating a vibrant technology institute that incubates and promotes learning, research, invention and eventually innovation; and Preparing each primary stakeholder towards their dharma, while continuing to adhere to its core values; Prepare competent Technology Graduates ready to meet Grand Challenges of India; Train active functionaries of a process driven professional institute; Facilitate builders of an internationally competitive academic institute; and Provide technology innovation as a force to as many industries as possible for economic value creation.

Academic Year

    Each academic year (July to June) consists of two academic semesters. Each semester is for about sixteen (16) weeks with one week of recess for students, making it about 15 working weeks in each semester. Excluding the days of the examinations, the total number of days of instruction in a semester is at least 70. Normally, Semester I (July–December) commences in the 4th week of July and closes in the 1st week of December, and Semester II (December–May) in the 4th week of December closes in the 1st week of May.

    The Academic Calendar gives the dates of all important events during the Academic Session, such as Orientation, Registration, Commencement of classes, Add and Drop of courses, Submission of Mandatory documents, Examinations, Submission of Grades, Conversion of Incomplete grades, Vacation, and Mid-semester recess. This calendar is approved by the Senate of the Institute and displayed in the website of the Institute before the start of each Academic Semester.

Rules For Change Branch:
Change of the branch is permitted strictly in the order of merit determined by the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) at the end of second semester. In case of a tie, the JEE rank of the applicants will be considered. The Criteria for Branch Change are:
(1) The Student should have a CGPA at the end of the second semester of at least: 
      (a) 7.0/10 for SC/ST applicants; and
      (b) 8.0/10 for other applicants
(2) The Student should have passed all the courses till second semester (including the courses in which S/X grades are awarded).
(3) The strength of no branch shall exceed 105% of its sanctioned strength, or fall below 90% of its existing strength as a result of branch change(s).

Academic Facilities:

   IIT Jodhpur has established laboratories for the B.Tech. Programs. These laboratories have advanced equipment and instrumentation of international standard, which are used extensively in teaching and research.

   The Library of the Institute has a collection of about 10,000 volumes of books comprising of textbooks, research and reference books, monographs. Also, the Library provides access to a range of electronic resources from professional and scholarly societies and publishers, such as American Society for Mechanical Engineers, Institute for Electrical & Electronics Engineers, and Association for Computing Machinery. Also, it subscribes to popular scientific, research and archival databases, like MathSciNet, JStor, Prowess, and EBSCO Academic Search. The Library operates in a computerized environment with automated member & circulation services, and digital library services. Residential Facilities:

   The campus is well guarded 24 hours with security personnel. It is equipped with basic amenities, including LAN service in each room and recreational rooms. Faculty Members  and Staff Members of the Institute also live on campus; Transport facility is available between the Institute and city of the Jodhpur. Following are some basic facilities made available in the residential area:

  (1)  ATM & Bank: The residential area has a branch of SBI (State Bank of India) as well as two ATM of SBI and one ATM of Canara Bank enabling students to make transactions with ease;

  (2)  Food Court: There is a food court on the Campus. It provides hygienic food, fresh juices and various other snacks till late hours in the night;

  (3)  Gymnasium: A well-equipped gymnasium is operational round the clock in each hostel; Students can avail this facility to stay healthy and to maintain his/her physique;

  (4)  Dining Service: The Dining service is made available in the Dining Services Building on campus, which offers good quality food, regularly monitored by the Wardens for hygiene and nutritional values, and provided at competitive price;

  (5)  Shops: Shops catering to the various primary needs of students are present on Campus like Saloon, Beauty parlour, grocery, vegetable & dairy products etc.  

  (6)  Transport Services: The Institute has bus services running for students between the Permanent Campus to the city of Jodhpur; and

   (7) Sports Facilities like basketball court, tennis court, badminton court, indoor games (Like Table Tennis), a football and cricket stadium available.

   (8) Laundry Services provided to each student during their stay at the institute.

   (9) Entertainment Room: Every hostel consists of recreation facilities (like TV Rooms, where students can enjoy matches and watch movies) along with.

 

Hostels:

   The IIT Jodhpur campus has a student accommodation capacity of 1,301 spanning over 6 different hostels (5 boys and 1 girls). The hostels accommodate individual air-conditioned rooms (80 sq. ft. each) for every student and have basic furniture (table, chair, bed and almirah) provided by the Institute. Every hostel is fully connected via LAN and WIFI coverage. The hostel building is a state of the art insulated building hence comforting its residents from any climatic conditions pan year. There are several facilities provided within the hostels viz. TV room, reading room, TT/Carom/ indoor football table/ Snooker table/ Chess, Art and music room, a dedicated open to air play area and a gymnasium for each hostel. The entire hostel campus is provisioned with lift, RO water filter and coolers and Geyser facilities. There is also a lush-green area in and around every hostel along with a separate parking space for students’ conveyance facilities. Apart from all the above key points mentioned, the hostels have a separate students body called Regatta which organizes events to keep the students de-stressed by engaging them in a myriad of inter-hostel events pertaining to art-culture, literary, sports, technical etc. The hostels are manned round the clock by professional security guards for maintaining safety of the residents.

 

Medical Services:

   The residential campus has a Primary Health Center for providing routine health services. It provides services to the patients round the clock. In addition to the availability of medical service at the residential campus, the Institute has an ambulance service available round-the-clock. Besides, the Institute has empanelled 7 hospitals in the city of Jodhpur, namely:

(1) ASG Eye Hospital, Jodhpur,

(2) Goyal Hospital & Research Centre, Jodhpur,

(3) Heart & General Hospital, Jaipur,

(4) Kamla Nagar Hospital, Jodhpur,

(5) Medipulse Hospital, Jodhpur,  

(6) Vasundhara Hospital, Jodhpur.

(7) Shri Ram Hospital, Jodhpur (Under process) and

(8) Yash Aman Hospital, Jodhpur(Under process)

One of these hospitals, namely ASG Eye Hospital has specializations in Ophthalmology, Kamla Nagar Hospital in Orthopaedics, and Goyal Hospital & Research Centre and Medipulse Hospital are the best known general hospitals in the city. For specialized medical attention, doctors at Primary Health Center refer patients to one of these hospitals. In addition to these Seven hospitals, the city has a Medical College and 3 hospitals run by Government of Rajasthan. The Institute has close ties with All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Jodhpur. Also, the Institute has constituted a Medical Board consisting of Senior Doctors from the Medical College and the AIIMS; advice is taken periodically on quality of medical services at the Primary Health Center, and in critical medical cases. Further, IIT Jodhpur has empanelled two hospitals in Jaipur, which are accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare, and patients can be referred to these hospitals as per the need of the treatment. 
Student Life at Institute:
IIT Jodhpur offers plenty of opportunities for the holistic development of Students. Apart from the usual academics with regular classes, assignments and quizzes, the students are encouraged to pursue extra-curricular activities of their choice throughout the year. Two major student festivals are organized every year with active participation from hundreds of students form colleges across the nation. Thus, students can nurture their talents and prove their mettle. In addition, everyday life at the Institute has plenty of scope for learning and joy.
Financial Assistance:

  The IITJ facilitates scholarships and financial aids through numerous ways to its students. The Office of Students encourages and assists the students to apply and being awarded scholarships like National and State SC/ ST schemes like NSP, Top Class etc; MCM (Merit-Cum-Means), Fee Remission to SC/ST students, CSIR/UGC/MHRD grants and other scholarships. A brief about a few scholarships is as follows:-

  1. National Scholarship Portal (NSP)-one-stop solution through which various services starting from student application, application receipt, processing, sanction and disbursal of various scholarships to Students are enabled. National Scholarships Portal is taken as Mission Mode Project under National e-Governance Plan (NeGP).
  2. Central Sector Scholarship Scheme for Top Class Education for SC/ST students- This scholarship is provided to the meritorious students belonging to the SC/ST category. Facilities like tuition fees waiver, living expenses, books and a computer.
  3. Merit-Cum-Means (MCM)-  An Institute level scholarship which is awarded to general category students belonging to low income group. Under this scheme, 2/3 part tuition fees is remitted for students with family income of less than 5 Lakhs per annum and full tuition fee waiver to the students with family income less than 1 lakhs per annum. This scholarship is usually awarded to 25% of the total students at the Institute.

Training & Placement:
The prime role of Office of Student Placements is to bridge the gap between the industry leaders of today, and the budding leaders of tomorrow. It will continuously be engaged in inviting companies to our campus and will make rigorous effort to build long term relationship with the organization. The activities of the office are strengthened to provide career planning services which  aims to create an encouraging atmosphere for students by providing them ample reminders to build competencies in sync with their dream careers, thereby ensuring their smooth landing into the professional world. Also, it will sensitize students in best possible way by promoting them to take responsibility for their own career decision and prepare themselves for the industry. Thus, it will provide services and resources that assist students in their ongoing efforts of competence developing, career planning and employer searching. The office has to enhance the Employability Quotient of students by mapping the shortcomings in their attitude, skills and knowledge, and by polishing the soft skills through various career development and training programs. 

Training and Career Development programs are organized for grooming students with skills needed to face the real world. This year sessions organized were based on:  

a) General career counseling by renowned faculties from other IITs to make students aware with different career prospects and corresponding entry level requirements right from the beginning. This will help students immensely in the careful evaluation of individual strength, and the suitability of a work option. 

b) Organizing grooming/soft skills sessions by professionals. The major areas to improve within the realm of soft skills are improving facets of personality, sharpen verbal and written communication skills, learning corporate etiquettes, learning interview skills, handling group discussions, writing customized resume, honing leadership and teamwork skills. 

The Office builds and expands relationship with companies through social networking and industrial visits. Some renowned companies, like ISRO, L&T, Maruti, TVS, Bosch, Mahindra & Mahindra, VE Commercials, Microsoft, Amazon, DE-Shaw, Barclays, etc. visit IIT Jodhpur for internship and placements.

Industry And Alumni Relations:

Industry Relations:

   Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur announces the launch of the Centre for Next Generation AI Research (AINEXT) by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NVIDIA as a key technology and computing platform partner. This unique AINEXT Centre will pioneer in research to develop next generation AI systems, which will transform computers from tools to problem solving partners. The work that will be undertaken at IIT Jodhpur will enable AI systems to explain their actions and to acquire and understand and reason with common sense knowledge. The centre’s computing infrastructure will be built on the premise to scale out AI without scaling on the complexity like the NVIDIA DGX-2 Systems, the world’s most powerful AI System for the most complex AI challenges. This AINEXT Centre at IIT Jodhpur will provide unique opportunity to the researchers to develop next generation AI applications by exploiting the knowledge of the researchers at IIT Jodhpur, partnering Institutes and Organizations. This unprecedented venture is targeted to accelerate the research and development of next generation AI systems to immerse AI in every field, namely, healthcare, agriculture, public safety, social good, etc. It is an outcome of the Institute’s missions to excel in AI research.

  Further, IIT Jodhpur has active collaborations with Panasonic, TVS, Netapp, Samsung, Cognizant, TCS, GE, ANSYS and others.

  

Alumni Relations:

   The Alumni Relations Committee (ARC) at IIT Jodhpur, was founded with the vision of building a mutually beneficial relationship with the Alumni of the Institute by purposeful engagement. The Committee comprising Faculty Members, Staff, and a dynamic team of enthusiastic Student Volunteers handles Alumni Relations of the Institute. The Committee enables and facilitates activities that (1) Benefit our Alumni (2) Foster mutual trust and (3) Promote professional and technical excellence in our Alumni & Students. IIT Jodhpur values its Alumni as indispensable partners in its ultimate goal of technology development for the Nation. The Institute seeks to nurture and support its Alumni so that they may grow into a strong and dependable resource. The ARC, IIT Jodhpur, will facilitate this objective of the Institute and aspires to serve as a platform, where our Alumni, the Institute and other stakeholders can work together towards achieving the common goal of technology development for India. As steps towards this goal, The ARC organizes technical, non-technical and career-related interactive sessions between Alumni and current Students. Furthermore, the ARC plans to work with PanIIT Alumni in the near future to lead our young Alumni and Students on their paths to excellence.

   The ARC collects and regularly updates Alumni information, which is the basis of staying connected with IIT Jodhpur Alumni. The Competence Street, a publication from the ARC, features In-focus columns on our Alumni, Students, Faculty Members and Research areas that the Institute is advancing in. The ARC has made substantial efforts towards facilitating networking and communication between our Alumni and Students with the vision of promoting fruitful collaborations. The Committee is in the process of creating a common social cum professional platform, where the Alumni, Students and the Institute can interact. This, will certainly help Students in terms of internships, career advice, job openings and entrepreneurship opportunities. On the other hand, The Institute will be in a better position to keep track of the career trajectories and achievements of its Alumni. Alumni themselves will be able to reach out to the Institute for any support, provide feedback, obtain technical guidance from Faculty Members and mentor Students. Recreational/Extra Curricular activities:
Students are encouraged to participate in co-curricular activities (like the Student Chapter of IEEE on campus) to further their all-round personality development. Also, students engage in extracurricular activities at the Institute through the 7 Societies of the Students Gymkhana, namely:

IIT Jodhpur organizes a number of distinct events, workshops and conferences throughout the year. The subdivisions include the following:-
  • IGNUS- Institute’s National level annual techno-cultural-social festival.
  • SPANDAN- Spandan is the intra-institute cultural fest of IIT Jodhpur.
  • VARCHAS- the sports festival of IIT Jodhpur.
  • VIRASAT- a SPIC MACAY festival is a cultural extravaganza to celebrate the variety and richness of Indian Cultural Heritage. 
  • NIMBLE- Nimble, the intra-college technical fest provides a platform to the techno buds of the Institute to show their hidden talent.

Location and Accessibility:
IIT Jodhpur is located on the outskirts of the city of Jodhpur, which is well connected to other parts of country by road, rail and air. The Institute is located on National Highway 65 at Karwar village, about 24 km from the railway station and 25 km from the airport; it takes approximately 45 minutes and 40 minutes to drive from airport and railway station to the Institute, respectively.

The city of Jodhpur is connected well by road, rail and air to all major cities in the country, and by National Highways to major neighbouring cities. It is connected:

(1)  by RAIL to major cities in the country, like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kota, Kanpur, Ahmedabad, Indore, Bhopal, Jabalpur, Guwahati, Nagpur, Lucknow and Jaipur;

(2)  by FLIGHTS to Delhi and Mumbai everyday. Air India operate the daily flight to each of these cities; and

(3) by National Highways to major cities, e.g., Jaipur, Jaisalmer, Udaipur and Ahmedabad. Deluxe and express buses ply overnight to Jodhpur from Delhi, Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Baroda.
